Tyfu Cymru supports commercial horticulture in Wales
Tyfu Cymru provides training and technical support for commercial horticulture businesses in Wales, free of charge.
The services are:
- one-to-one technical support on a wide variety of topics, such as improving crop yields, new growing techniques and managing finance
- training workshops – delivered on-line since Covid-19
- a knowledge hub provides a range of information for commercial horticulture businesses
- topic specific networks for pumpkin & squash, soft fruit, top fruit, vegetables, ornamentals, flowers, Christmas trees and seeds – network members can join study tours and workshops, get technical advice and meet with peers.
Tyfu Cymru is a Welsh Government funded initiative and has been operating since 2017, with funding secure until 2023. It has created a database of over 430 Welsh horticulture businesses. In 2020 it launched a Commercial Horticulture Action Plan 2020, a roadmap for the future of horticulture in Wales. Boosting horticulture is key to the Welsh Government’s plans to emerge from the Covid-19 pandemic and has been identified by their Green Recovery Taskforce as a route to accelerating Wales’ transition to a low-carbon economy and a healthier, more equal nation.
